Meet Mel Cheung-Turner, ALLpaQ’s new Marketing Director. With her history in marketing and a deep commitment to voluntary service in non-executive roles, Mel brings a fresh perspective and dynamic energy to our team.
In this Q&A, explore how Mel’s extensive experience and personal passions are influencing her strategy to enhance ALLpaQ’s global presence.
Mel: I arrived at ALLpaQ with a mission to help build our profile, drive awareness of our innovative bioprocess solutions, and reach more markets globally.
I’m excited to take on this new challenge, to work with the fantastic team we have already here, to help raise the profile of ALLpaQ globally and leverage my experience and professional network to drive growth.
Mel: With over 25 years’ multi-channel marketing experience working across multiple sectors and industries, where my role will add value is utilising that expertise to identify the best opportunities and relevant channels to drive growth for ALLpaQ both in the UK and globally.
Mel: I’ve been working in marketing since graduating from Lancaster University in ‘96 with a BSc in Marketing. I started at Littlewoods Home Shopping (which is now very.co.uk), progressing through the ranks in various marketing management roles across home shopping, high street retail and ecommerce channels, and was later headhunted by Johnson Cleaners to become their Head of Marketing, before being promoted to Marketing Director and onto their Management Board.
Later, after a period at Morrisons where I was responsible for heading up their Online Marketing team in Bradford, at the time when we launched online grocery shopping, I made the decision to prioritise my family and relocated back home to Liverpool, and joined Citation Professional Solutions as their Marketing Director.
Within 18 months, my young son started to develop a real talent for table tennis, which made me reassess my work / life balance and I decided to set up my own strategic marketing consultancy, My Creative Thoughts where I supported SMEs with a Virtual Marketing Director service on a fractional, interim or project basis to allow me to support my son on his incredible table tennis journey.
This eventually brought me to ALLpaQ where I initially undertook an independent strategic review of ALLpaQ’s marketing capability and performance. I’m now delighted to be part of the Senior Management Team as their new Marketing Director.
Mel: When my son started training and competing in table tennis over 8 years ago, my husband and I had to adjust our work schedules to support him with his intense training schedule. It’s been an incredible journey, with him becoming England #1 and National Champion at the age of 10, and winning numerous titles and awards along the way. I’m glad I made the decision to prioritise my family and be there for him, creating special memories and moments to remember.
Mel: Yes, I’m on the Liverpool Chamber Board as a Non-Executive Director where I help to support and connect businesses and professionals in the Liverpool City Region. I’m also a member of the Remuneration and Nominations Committee where we meet 3/4 times a year, in addition to attending board meetings and strategy days to review strategic initiatives and future plans for the Chamber of Commerce.
In addition, I’ve been on the Board of British Para Table Tennis for over 7 years now, serving my second 4-year term with the National Governing Body (NGB). I’m Chair of the Communications Committee and a member of the Nominations Committee, where I’ve played a key role in helping to shape the dynamic of the board with the recruitment of our Non-Executive Directors and a new Chair.
I’m also incredibly proud that we have the most followed Para Table Tennis NGB Facebook page in the world with a highly engaged community, where we have worked hard to drive awareness and inclusivity of Parasport and the achievements of our world-class athletes.
Last but not least, I’ve been involved with the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation Retail Board for many years now, a cause close to my heart.
ALLpaQ’s culture is supportive and positive, which is refreshing. Everyone is enthusiastic and enjoys working here, which makes a big difference.

Mel: With my ability to build relationships and communicate effectively across channels and cross-functionally, and experience building and developing teams at all levels, I have an ability to look for ways to drive growth organically. Volunteering has also taught me to look for creative solutions and leverage resources effectively. These skills are serving me well in my role at ALLpaQ.
Mel: I see us expanding our global reach, entering new markets and raising our brand profile. We have a great proposition, product range and team, and by working collaboratively across production, training and operations, and in particular with our new dynamic sales team, I have no doubt we will reach exciting new heights together, driving organic growth for ALLpaQ in the future.
