Pharmaceutical regulator funding consultation launched

A consultation has been launched to seek the views of the pharmaceutical industry into the funding of regulatory bodies in the UK.

The move follows amendments to the Health and Social Care Act 2012 which decree that the Government will no longer fund the oversight of the General Pharmaceutical Council and other healthcare regulators.
As such, the regulators have been tasked with funding the new Professional Standards Authority themselves.
 
The PSA replaces the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence.
The consultation considers:

• A proposal to set fees according to the number of registrants. This method is preferred in a bid to avoid undue burden on smaller regulators

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is responding to the consultation. Members are invited to submit their views to inform this response.
