The role of single-use technologies in vaccine development will continue to evolve over the next decade, according to Xavier Derouck of GlaxoSmithKline.
GSK is a “great believer” in single-use systems, Mr Derouck told delegates at the Disposable Solutions for Biomanufacturing Conference in Munich, Germany.
To ensure single-use technologies are “used to produce vaccines without any risk” to patients, robust risk mitigation strategies needed to be implemented across all rungs of the supply chain, he added.
As such, Mr Derouck forecasted that over the next five to ten years single-use systems would continue moving towards:
- Compliance
- Affordability
- Reliability
- Process orientated
- Sustainability
Mr Derouck is GSK’s global senior sourcing manager for single-use technology.
