Hospira has initiated a recall of one lot of Vancomycin Hydrochloride for Injection due to a storage “glitch” during shipment.
The supply chain error may have exposed the product to temperature fluctuations during transit to a customer leading to “uncontrolled storage”.
Whilst the product was further distributed by the customer, the Lake Forest, IL-based company assures that there have been no adverse events or complaints reported for the affected lot.
It also says that there is a lack of information to substantiate whether the effect of uncontrolled temperatures on vancomycin would degrade the product.
The recall action is being investigated purely “out of an abundance of caution”.
